Sightseeing guide
Discovering Cologne and its 2000-year history takes time. However, for all those who only have time for a brief visit, or are merely spending a few hours or just a day in Cologne, we have prepared tours designed to whet your appetite and offer an initial insight into this fascinating city.

And for all those sporty people: there is also a tour for jogger, taking you along the banks of the River Rhine.

Cologne in a day
A one-day sightseeing tour of Cologne simply has to start with a visit to the Cathedral. From here, head down to the Museum Ludwig. Continue from here down to the Rhine and board one of the Rhine ferries at the Hohenzollernbrcke (Hohenzollern Bridge) and steam over to Deutz. Take in the fabulous view of Cologne's impressive Altstadt (Old Town) panorama. A short stroll back over the Deutzer Brcke (Deutz Bridge) brings you to the Hotel Maritim. Visit St. Georg (St. George's Church) and stroll down Hohe Strae with all its wonderful stores and emporia. Then continue your sojourn towards the Grzenich (city banqueting hall) where you should take a well-deserved rest. Recuperated and refreshed, visit Alt-St. Alban (Old St. Alban's Church) and then continue on to the Rathaus, (Town Hall), crossing the Alter Markt (Old Market) and through St. Martin's Quarter to Gro St. Martin (Great St. Martin's Church). In the evening, Koelnmesse recommends a concert at the Philharmonie or "Saturday Night Fever" at the Musical Dome next to the Central Station. If you are visiting Cologne on a Monday, we recommend that you visit the Dizesanmuseum (Diocesan Museum) instead of the museum complex, as almost all municipal museums are closed on Mondays. The special thing about the taxi guide service is that the drivers, trained by the Cologne Chamber of Commerce and Industry and KlnTourismus, offer two theme tours at a fixed price in selected vehicles. For 69 marks, the highlights of Cologne are presented — from the Roman town wall, to the brewery. Whoever wants to see more of the Rhine metropolis can book the two-hour long tour Cologne from A to Z for 99 marks.

Cologne in ten minutes

If you have no more than ten minutes to have a look at the wonderful sights of Cologne, we have prepared a special tour for the hurried trade fair visitor: First, visit the Cathedral, cross the Domplatte (Cathedral Square) and Roncalliplatz (Roncalli Square) and enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle of the area. Then walk down past the Rmisch-Germanisches Museum (Roman-Germanic Museum) to the Rheingarten (Rhine Garden). Leaving Cologne without having tasted a glass of Klsch (typical Cologne beer)? Don't even think about it. On your way back, stop off at one of the most famous Cologne breweries — "Frh am Dom". See you next time you visit Cologne! With our best wishes, Koelnmesse.

Cologne in four hours
If you have about four hours for a short tour of the city, then you should set out from the Cathedral. Head down towards the museum complex comprising the Wallraf-Richartz-Museum and the Museum-Ludwig. Then continue down to the Rhine embankment. Board one of the Rhine ferries at the Hohenzollernbrcke (Hohenzollern Bridge) and take a trip over to Deutz. Let your breath be taken away by the sensational view of Cologne's impressive panorama with the Rhine, Cathedral and Old Town (Altstadt). A stroll over the Deutzer Brcke (Deutz Bridge) brings you to the Hotel Maritim. From there, walk down to the Alter Markt (Old Market) and on to the Rathaus (Town Hall). And you will still have time to round off your tour with a shopping spree on Hohe Strasse.

Tour for joggers
Start your run by the Hohenzollernbrcke (Hohenzollern Bridge) and Hyatt Hotel on the Trade Fair side of the Rhine. In good weather, you can admire the climbers shimmying up the bases of the bridge. The route takes you south along the Rhine, in part along the side of the road, past the Deutzer-Brcke (Deutz Bridge) and Severins-Brcke (Severin Bridge) with the globe on top which is illuminated at night. Behind the last bridge, turn right into Alfred-Schtte-Allee and cross the small rotating bridge (Drehbrcke). You may have to pause here for a while until the bridge rotates back into its normal position. Then continue along the Poll Fields (Poller Wiesen) and cross to the other side of the Rhine using the Sd-Brcke (South Bridge, railway bridge with a pedestrian footpath). From here, continue for a short while along the embankment road with its wonderful old trees with the Cathedral always in front of you. Now you pass the bridges again, and — on the other side of the road — the Brgerhaus Stollwerck, the former chocolate factory, as well as the new Sports and Olympic Museum with its roof-top badminton court. Directly following this, you will pass another revolving bridge giving access to the Chocolate Museum, before finally reaching the Old Town from where you can cross, by the Cathedral, the Hohenzollernbrcke (Hohenzollern Bridge) again and return to the Hyatt Hotel. This approx. 8-km tour can be shortened if you so wish, but can also be expanded by continuing south towards the Rodenkirchener-Brcke (Rodenkirchen Bridge) and north towards the Mlheimer Brcke (Mlheim Bridge).

Koelnmesse wishes you a pleasant stay in Cologne.
