Koelnmesse GmbH has established two new Asian subsidiaries, thereby further expanding its involvement in the Asian markets. Koelnmesse Ltd. Tokyo was founded on December 14, 2005. In the first half of 2006, this will be followed up by the foundation of its sister subsidiary Koelnmesse Ltd. Thailand in Bangkok. In addition, in early December Koelnmesse GmbH bought 26 percent of the shares in the Thai trade fair company Expolink Global Network Ltd. Thanks to its leading global trade fairs and the events it organizes abroad, Koelnmesse is an international brand, says Jochen Witt, President and CEO of Koelnmesse GmbH. By expanding our sales networks in Asia we are taking into account the importance of the Asian markets and laying the foundation for our continued business success in these booming regions of the global economy. Koelnmesses involvement abroad is part of a clear strategy, he adds: In terms of content, we are building on the sector expertise of our leading global trade fairs. We are establishing foreign subsidiaries staffed mainly by local personnel and working to set up cooperative projects with local partners. The trade fairs organized abroad, he says, are a platform for business and provide the customers attending Koelnmesses international events with a gateway to the booming markets of the global economy. Photo Imaging Expo Tokyo, which will take place in March 2006, is one of the most important trade fairs for the imaging sector in Asia. It is the first project of Koelnmesses new subsidiary in Japan, which has six employees and is managed by Michael Dreyer and Susumu Miyazaki. Dreyer is also the manager of Koelnmesse Pte Ltd. in Singapore, Koelnmesses headquarters in Asia. For many years now, Miyazaki has been the head of Koelnmesses representative office in Tokyo, which has now been expanded to form a subsidiary. Japan has become a successful business venue for the Koelnmesse Group, thanks in part to the EXPO 2005 World Exposition in Aichi. Koelnmesse International GmbH organized Germanys participation in EXPO 2005 from start to finish, and the German pavilion, named bionis, won the organizers gold medal for providing the best expression of the EXPO slogan. Thailand to become pillar of business success in Asia In addition to China, where Koelnmesse has established six events so far, the company believes that Thailand offers the largest potential for future trade fair success in the region. This belief is based on the growth of Thailands gross domestic product, its high level of consumer demand and its flourishing trade fair business. For example, THAIFEX World of Food ASIA, which is organized by Koelnmesse GmbH and Expolink Global Network Ltd., has become the leading trade fair for the food industry in southeast Asia. Thailand will also be the partner country of the next Anuga in Cologne, the leading global trade fair for the food sector. All the indicators also point to success for ida interior design asia, which will be staged next March by Koelnmesse, Expolink and Thailands Department of Export Promotion as part of the Thailand International Furniture Fair. Eight subsidiaries, more than 80 foreign representative offices In 2006, the newly established subsidiaries will increase the global network of Koelnmesse GmbH to a total of eight subsidiaries and more than 80 foreign representatives and representative offices. The companys portfolio of events abroad currently includes 19 trade fairs. Koelnmesse GmbH conducts approximately 60 international trade fairs, which are used by approximately 42,000 exhibitors to showcase their products and services and are attended by some 2.3 million visitors from all over the world.
