New: interior design asia in cooperation with the Thai International Furniture Fair
Koelnmesse investing in Thailand

Cologne, 10th May 2005 Koelnmesse is intensifying its commitment in Asia. In collaboration with the Thai governments Department of Export Promotionc DEP), the aim in future is to reorganize and combine interior design asia (ida) and the Thai International Furniture Fair (TIFF), one of Asias largest and most traditional furniture fairs.

Asia is today, and in the years to come will be the worlds leading growth market, also as far as the furniture sector is concerned, was how Wolfgang Kranz, Executive Director Koelnmesse GmbH, explained the background to the new partnership. With our presence in Thailand, from next year together with our customers, we are seeking to open up the economic and business potential of these new markets. In this connection as the organizer of the TIFF, the Department of Export Promotion is the ideal partner enabling us to make optimal use of Koelnmesses international know-how in the area of home furniture and furnishings both for our exhibitors as well as for the regions furniture sector.

"Both the DEP as well as Koelnmesse recognize the growing synergies between design, furniture and furnishings and their significance for the Asian markets, added Khun Chantra Purnariksha, Director-General of the Department of Export Promotion (DEP). We wanted to cooperate with an organizer who not only contributes experience and know-how in the staging of world-class furniture fairs, but who also, and in particular, is pursuing the same objectives. The partnership with Koelnmesse will quite definitely provide new impulses for the business climate and position ida/TIFF as one of Asias most highly regarded international fairs in the area of home furnishings and design." The concept of the new event focuses on international design themes. Under the its more than design motto, next year worldwide renowned designers will present current trends to Asian fair visitors.

The spectrum of the solutions presented extends from individual home furniture and furnishing accessories up to comprehensive interior concepts. With its presentation of current technologies for interior design, furniture and furnishing accessories, ida is an ideal complement to the TIFF which primarily shows end-products, says Michael Dreyer, Executive Director and Vice-President Asia-Pacific, Koelnmesse Pte Ltd. Overall ida/TIFF will cover the entire spectrum of furniture design and production including the theme of the office. It will present upholstered materials, furniture, interior design objects, furniture production materials and furnishing items, lighting design and technology as well as kitchen and kitchen appliance concepts. As a special highlight for manufacturers the fair will also show wood-processing and furniture manufacture technologies.

The aim of the new event is to attract more international exhibitors to Bangkok and to open up the up-and-coming Asian market to worldwide design trends. The expanded ida/TIFF trade fair will be held for the first time from 8th to 12th March 2006 in Bangkok at the IMPACT Exhibition & Convention Centre. The registration phase for ida/TIFF is already underway, up to the opening next year we expect approx. 400 participants, Dreyer said.
