While preparations for the establishment of a "Rhineland Samples Exhibition" took on concrete shape as early as just after the First World War, the Kölner Messegesellschaft (Cologne Trade Fair Company) is not founded until April 1, 1922, at the instigation of Lord Mayor Adenauer.
